Helen writes:

Saleena is a twelve-year old girl from a very poor family, and belonging to one of the lowest castes in Nepal. Their home is a one-roomed hut made out of cheap bricks with a corrugated iron roof. Though attending a State school, in her free time Saleena earned a pittance towards food for her family by watching someones cows and buffaloes as they graze in a remote plac).

One day, while keeping watch over the animals she was attacked and raped by two or three men. Intent on killing her, they slashed her around the head with a sickle and left her, unconscious, to die.

Fortunately she was found by boys from her village but remained unconscious for fifteen days. One of her rapists, a twenty-eight year-old man is now in prison. Her other attackers are still at large.

Now she is cared for by 3 Angels Nepal in Pokhara. Though heavily scarred as a result of her injuries Saleena is a bright, smiling child, happy in the loving care she is receiving in her new home. Now attending the Mission School instead of the State school, she has a desire to learn to speak English because she says, “The whole world speaks English. I want to learn to speak English too. I am happy to go back to 1st grade so long as I can learn to speak English!”

There are literally thousands of other “Saleenas” in Nepal who need to know the freedom that comes from experiencing the love of Jesus in their formerly traumatic lives.

Helen.
