A message from Helen…

Today I visited a lady with a horror story. She is a low caste Nepali woman and was up a tree cutting branches to feed the goats and buffaloes when she fell and broke her back.

Her husband took her to a couple of hospitals but there was no money for what they needed to do so he left her and married someone els).

For 7 years she lived like that, paralysed from the waist down. She says that the dogs used to lick the discharge from her toes and the chickens peck at her feet. After 7 years an organisation found out about her situation and paid for an operation. Because of the horrible state of her legs they had to amputate them from the hips. The same organisation also built a room for her and a toilet, the toilet room has enough room for the wheelchair that they also provided but there is no water. She has 2 beautiful daughters aged about 11 and 12 and they do everything for her and have to walk some distance to an open well to get water.

I remember a saying” I complained I had no shoes until I met a man who had no feet”. How about meeting a person who has no legs?

Are we blessed or are we not? Helen.
